Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to Lonaka – Journal of Learning and Teaching must be original and unpublished. Lonaka discourages submissions to different journals at the same time. Once an author submits a manuscript to Lonaka, they can only submit it to another journal after they have received a decision. Authors must submit their manuscripts through the Author/Reviewer Login on Lonaka’s online submission system. However, before submitting your manuscript you must take note of the following guidelines:

  1. All manuscripts and their accompanying files are to be submitted as word documents
  2. The word limit for submissions is as follows for the different types of manuscript:
  • Research articles (5, 000 – 8, 000 words, including references)
  • Essays (2, 000 – 5, 000 words, including references)
  • Personal reflections (1, 000 – 1, 500 words, including references)
  • Book reviews (1, 000 – 1, 500 words, including references)
  1. Each manuscript submission should be preceded with an abstract of 150 to 200 words and a maximum of five (5) key words beneath the abstract.
  2. All Tables and Figures in the text must be numbered (e.g., Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.) Each Table or Figure should have a brief descriptive title (e.g., Table 1: Number of e-learning courses per semester; Figure 1:  The clinical reasoning process in medical education) Note that the title for a Table should be written at the top of the Table while title for a Figure should be placed beneath the Figure.
  3. The font should be Times New Roman, size 12, single-spaced. Page numbering should be at the top right-hand side of the page. All text should be flush against the left margin, except for lengthy quotations. Long quotations should be indented from left- and right-hand margins. The text of the manuscript should not be justified.
  4. Title of article should be in bold upper case; headings in bold lower case; and sub-headings: not bold, not italics, not underlined, in lower case.
  5. The language of publication for Lonaka is English, and authors should ensure that the text of their manuscript is written in a clear, logical, and an appropriate academic style. Authors should consistently use British English spelling, except in quotations where the original spelling should be maintained.
  6. If the data from which excerpts are used in the text of the manuscript are in another language other than English, English translations of the original language should be included.
  7. Authors should not use footnotes; all notes should be at the end of the manuscript (endnotes) and should be kept to a minimum.
  8. All author identification should be removed from the main document and other files and kept only in the title page/file.
  9. The title of the manuscript, author or authors’ names, institutional affiliations, and full address of author(s) (including email address and telephone) should be on a separate sheet and uploaded as a separate file.
  10. Contributors are to check to be sure that any manuscript to be submitted to Lonaka is plagiarism-free before they make the submission.

 

Lonaka adopts and uses the 7th edition of the APA style of in-text citation and referencing. Authors are to click on the hyperlink here, and then follow strictly the 7th edition of the APA rubrics and guideline manual for their in-text citation and reference list.
